Lime Tahiti Grow your own zesty limes on the patio! Do you like lime in your gin & tonic? or fancy making your own key lime pie? Why not try the delicious taste & awarding process of using your own homegrown produce. The Lime ' Tahiti' produces bright green, zesty fruits throughout the year which are juicy & delicious. It also makes an attractive feature on the patio or wherever you choose to grow, with small clusters of white flowers blossoming too. Against the glossy dark green foliage, these are stunning in themself but also produce a delightful fragrance.  The seedless lime fruits grow in abundance but can take up to a year to ripen. However, their taste is worthwhile & provide quality. If you miss the chance to pick your limes when perfectly ripe they will eventually turn yellow on the tree.  Once harvested, Limes will keep for up to 2 weeks. Lime trees are capable of surviving brief periods below 0C, but for the best result, grow in a large container & move indoors to a bright frost free position from autumn to spring. You don't need to worry about a pollination companion, because this tree is self fertile.  Propagated onto 'PS' rootstock & supplied as a large specimen bush (often in fruit) in a 5 litre pot.

Height:
250cm (78). Spread: 150cm (59).

Origin: Australasia. The Latin name ' Citrus australasica' gives away the origins of this, one of a group of citrus plants native only to Australiasia & now being increasingly marketed down under as 'gourmet bush tucker'. Also known as the caviar lime, the finger sized fruits break open to release tiny citrus bombs that burst on the tongue. Rarely found in this country as fruit & even more rarely found as plants, with a flavour somewhere between a lime & a grapefruit, finger limes are increasingly being talked about in U.S. foodies circles as the new food delicacy. Protect from frost. Mature height 1-1.5m (3'3-5'). Self-fertile. Supplied in a 3 litre pot. ...
