Fig is a deciduous fruit tree with large foliage of deeply lobed deep green leaves. Small petal-less flowers are contained in a hollowed-out receptacle, which enlarges to form sweet tasting edible fruit. It generally fruits from August to September. RHS AGM winner. Ficus carica produces sweet, juicy figs from August to September. The fruits develop in the spring, & then ripen from August to September. A second crop may sometimes develop in late summer &, if protected, these will ripen the following summer.

Well known as the Fiddle-leaf Fig, this elegant house plant is grown for its impressive foliage. Each leaf is stiff & has a leathery feel with a distinctive curved shape & pale, prominent veins. Ficus lyrata ' Compacta' is a luscious evergreen, with a lovely glossy sheen that reflects light beautifully. Although it grows relatively slowly, if given the right growing conditions it will ultimately form a tall, slender specimen that will be a fine focal point for your home. Ficus lyrata ' Compacta' needs plenty of bright light which is why it is a good choice for a conservatory or bright living room. If it is getting insufficient amounts of light it will start to shed its leaves. Keep away from radiator & cold draughts also. The best temperature should be between 16C (60F) & 24C (75F). Water well between the spring & autumn. Let the surface of the soil dry out each time. In the winter reduce the amount of watering but do not let it dry out completely.
