International Human Resource Management Course For many years, human resource management was seen as the "poor relation" of the business functions. Limited to a low-key administrative role, concerned with employee welfare & payroll administration, or at best a trouble-shooting role concerned with resolving labour-management conflicts, human resource professionals were rarely seen as having any significant role to play in determining the organisation's overall strategy. In the words of Peter Drucker, personnel was the "trash can". How things have changed. Increasingly, managers are now realising that the key resource determining the effectiveness of an organisation is its human resources: its people. As long ago as the late 1970s & early 1980s, North American & European managers were beginning to realise that what made Japanese businesses so different, so superbly competitive, was their approach to managing people. The American management consultants, Peters & Waterman, searching for examples of business excellence in the US, decided that the key lay in the distinctive cultures of their "excellent" businesses. Current debates in strategic management focus on the conditions for the creation of sustainable competitive advantage. It is becoming clear that many of the traditional marketing & product development bases of competitive strategy can be imitated by competitors relatively easily
- the advantage gained through such strategies is often simply not sustainable. This is less the case with human resource management. The way an organisation treats its staff, an organisation's culture & its approach to teamwork & innovation are all potentially distinctive & value-creating characteristics that have the potential to create competitive advantage. Furthermore, the very idiosyncrasy & social complexity of such characteristics means that once created any advantage is likely to be sustainable simply because competitors will find it difficult to imitate.

Introduction to Bookkeeping Course Bookkeeping is the activity of keeping accurate records of all movements of money or of things with value that take place in a particular business or organisation. The only qualities a would-be bookkeeper needs are some common sense, a logical mind, the ability to write neatly & the ability to do simple arithmetic accurately
- & nowadays most arithmetic is done on a calculator! All businesses use the same system of bookkeeping which has its own built-in self checking methods to make sure that it is done accurately. Once you have learnt the system, you are just as able to keep the books of a large multi-million pound corporation as you are able to keep the books of a small one-man business
- the only difference is the amount of work involved. This course is designed to teach you the basic rules of book-keeping in easy stages so that you gradually build up your knowledge & confidence & eventually achieve complete mastery of the subject at this level. More importantly, you will be able to handle your own accounting records, or those of an employer, in a practical & professional manner. Each lesson deals with a related group of topics. These can be studied one at a time or in one session, according to your personal situation
- how much time you have & how much you feel that you can cope with in one session. The course is designed for you to study at your own pace. You don't have to rush to keep up with a class or wait for a class to catch up with you. At the end of each lesson, there is a test covering all the topics of the lesson together which your college tutor will mark & return to you. A lot of people imagine that book-keeping is complicated & difficult to learn. As you will soon discover on this course, it is in fact extremely straightforward & logical. It's also very interesting because it deals with the lifeblood of any business
- money!

Introduction to Research Awareness in Social Care Course It might be useful to begin by saying what this course is not intended to be. It is not intended to be a research methods programme. Many people who have not studied research before are anxious that they will be confronted by a mass of confusing statistics which they neither feel equipped to underst&, nor are particularly interested in. This anxiety has its origins in a perception of research as something done by boffins in white coats surrounded by 'experiments' & computers churning out statistics which only they are qualified to underst&. This course is intended to question this perception by highlighting that research is something we all do in our everyday lives. ...

Introduction To Marketing Management (Byte Size Skills Course)

Introduction to Marketing Management Course Marketing has a key functional role as the only part of the organisation which has proactive contact with customers; it is the bridge to the customer and the consumer. This is the aspect of marketing which most people recognise, and which can be thought to be marketing's sole role. But unless marketers take an active part at corporate level it is unlikely that the organisation as a whole will have a customer focus. A major role for marketing management is therefore to encourage and reinforce a marketing orientation that permeates every sector of the organisation. At corporate level any organisation has a relationship with its environment - the need to manage this relationship should be obvious, but unfortunately this realisation only
came to many British firms in the take-over battles of the 1970s when they found that although their brands might be well known the organisation itself was not. Corporate managers quickly came to realise the need to use marketing's core skills to market the organisation as well as its products. After participating in this course, you should be able to: determine the role and effectiveness of marketing in given circumstances identify the key stages in the corporate planning process establish management objectives use key marketing terms correctly
