Untamed London in a series of City Map/ Guides from Herb Lester Associates presents 82 of the capital’s parks, woodlands, cemeteries & other places, big & small, where nature & wildlife flourish. The publishers’ recommendations range from the obvious, London’s Royal Parks or Hampstead Heath, to small peaceful churchyards or spots for bird watching, with coverage right across the Greater London area. Maps in this series are an eclectic selection of quirky titles designed to illuminate particular aspects of a city or a district. Each title lists publishers’ recommendations, ranging from the already famous attractions to little gems known only to the well informed locals, all with brief descriptions &, where appropriate, contact details. Accompanying maps are designed to highlight the locations of the recommended places rather than to provide an accurate presentation of the street network. After 2000 years of human habitation, it is quite remarkable how much green space remains in this city. This guide charts places all but untouched by human hand: ancient woodland & meadows, marshes & rivers. It also locates those heartening spots where man has lost the battle with nature & wild plants have taken root amid concrete & brick. From the ancient forests of north London to the east`s abandoned sewage works, south London`s commons & the west`s roaming deer, Wild London is your handy guide to finding green among the grey. ...

In 1944, at the age of five, William Graves was taken from England to the delightful mountain village of Deya in Majorca, where his father
- the poet Robert Graves
- had returned with his new family to the place he had lived with Laura Riding before the war. Young William grew up in the shadow of this great writer in the Englishness of the Graves household, while experiencing the ways of life of the Majorcans, which had hardly changed for hundreds of years. Wonderfully observant, & full of feeling for the locality, this book is also a fascinating portrait of Robert Graves himself, his ` Muses`, & his entourage, & a revealing study of how the son of a famous father finds his own identity.
