When he sees the state of it he questions the wisdom of his move, but starts to renovate the house for his wife, Lauren to join him there. Ethan, a fisherman, is particularly perturbed by Timothy`s arrival, but accedes to Timothy`s request to take him out to sea. They set out along the polluted coastline, hauling in weird fish from the contaminated sea, catches that are bought in whole & removed from the village. Timothy starts to ask questions about the previous resident of his house, Perran, questions to which he receives only oblique answers & increasing hostility. As Timothy forges on despite the villagers` animosity & the code of silence around Perran, he starts to question what has brought him to this place & is forced to confront a painful truth. As seen in O: The Oprah Magazine, the New York Times Book Review, USA Today, Cool Hunting, & countless other media outlets, The Map as Art is available now in a paperback edition. This volume by Katharine Harmon, author of our best-selling book You Are Here, extends that book`s celebration of mapmaking to the world of artists` maps. It is little surprise that in an era of globalized politics, culture, & ecology contemporary artists are drawn to mapsto express their visions. Using paint, salt, souvenir tea towels, or their own bodies, map artists explore a world free ofgeographical constraints. In The Map as Art, Harmon collects 360 colorful, map-related artistic visions by well-known artists--such as Ed Ruscha, Julian Schnabel, Olafur Eliasson, William Kentridge, & Vik Muniz--and many more less-familiar artists for whom maps are the inspiration for creating art. Essays by Gayle Clemans bring an in-depth look into the artists` maps of Joyce Kozloff, Landon Mackenzie, Ingrid Calame, Guillermo Kuitca, & Maya Lin. Together, the beautiful reproductions & telling commentary make this an essential volume for anyone open to exploring new paths. ...

The Map And The Territory 2.0: Risk, Human Nature, And The Future Of
Forecasting

Like all of us, though few so visibly, Alan Greenspan was forced by the financial crisis of 2008 to question some fundamental assumptions about risk management and economic forecasting. How had our models so utterly failed us? Virtually every day, we make wagers on the future - but, even when we`re not driven by factors entirely beyond our conscious control, the maps by which we are steering are often out-of-date. The Map and the Territory is an important attempt to update our forecasting conceptual grid using twenty-first-century technologies, offering a lucid and empirical grounding in what we can know about economic forecasting and what we can`t.
