If you`ve ever been in a Wetherspoon`s, you`ve probably looked down & noticed the brilliantly-hued carpet beneath your feet. But that carpet isn`t just for disguising spilt drinks... Each Wetherspoon has a carpet that is unique & bespoke, with a design inspired by the history of the building, its locale or the name of the pub. Thanks to the hit blog ` Wetherspoon`s Carpets`
- which posed the important question `are any two Wetherspoon carpets the same?`
- these tapestried hymns to British boozers have become a cultural sensation. Now, Kit Caless has travelled the length & breadth of the UK, from Berkshire to Renfrewshire, Bradford to Bridgend, to photograph over 70 splendid carpets from Wetherspoons & meet some of the pubs` regulars. Each entry appears in all its glorious colour, along with Caless` witty & informative text on the inspiration for each carpet`s design, the history of the pub & key facts about the branch & its regulars. Will your Spoons be there?

This is the rock climbing instructional book. Until now, instructional books for climbers have taken a largely `negative` approach, concentrating on how to reduce the inherent risks of the sport, & mentioning only in passing the equally important skills required to get to the top. This book represents a watershed in the genre, coming from a coaching perspective. ” Sport Climbing+” is packed with inspirational photos, humorous illustrations, & two lifetime`s worth of learning how to succeed at the toughest of all sports. The book takes a practical approach, focussing on the improvements that climbers can make immediately, without embarking on lengthy training programs. Written in a highly accessible, jargon-free style, this book is as beneficial to the novice indoor climber wanting to get on rock as it is to the experienced climber wanting to move onto the next level. ...

Sport revolves around two things: narrative & numbers. You need the narrative, otherwise why would anyone care about sport? Rivalries, emotions, & sporting legends all require it. But sport also needs numbers. Without them, we have no idea who has won. We need numbers to tell which team is top of the table, or who is the world champion. Sport Geek is a visual & numerical tour through sporting debates & ideas. Teams in all sports use data to create extraordinary analysis of how their players perform, to assess tactics & to get an edge over arch rivals; but fans are rarely presented with challenging & informative data that would help them to further understand sport. Find out why Usain Bolt`s 200m world record is really a big disappointment, whether big sports stars earn more from prize money or sponsorship, learn what the best sport to make a film about is, & what the Flo-Jo problem is. In Sport Geek Rob Minto brings together an encyclopaedic knowledge & love of sport, a rigorous & painstaking understanding & research of statistics with passionate & serious analysis. There`s nothing academic about the way in which Sport Geek is presented, nor the way Rob has unfolded its many stories, but it has been written with the knowledge of an expert with access to cutting edge quantitative analysis & difficult to uncover data. With international breadth & appeal & covering almost every imaginable sport, Sport Geek embraces our global enthusiasm for competitive sport & will arm any sports fan with invaluable information that will give the edge in any sporting debate. Sport Geek is packed with success stories & failures, with anomalies & surprises. What makes this stand out from competing titles is the analysis & contextualisation of the data
- in other words, until now it`s not yet been clear why the data is interesting to fans.

Sporting London

London`s contribution to sport has been enormous; it is the home of cricket, rugby and tennis, and it was in London that many sports were first organised and codified. It was here that lawn tennis was first played on a rectangular court. The cricket club at Marylebone drew up the rules of cricket, and London possibly gave birth to the sport of boxing. Here too is the oldest cycling club and the oldest rowing race. And it was London that staged the first international championships of water polo, table-tennis and weightlifting. A well-illustrated book on this fascinating theme.
