The maps have contours at 5 metre intervals, plus relief shading & graphics for rocky outcrops & boulders. Further graphics and/or colouring show different types of land use or vegetation (forests, arable l&, orchards, marshes, peat bogs, etc). An unusual feature of this survey is the colouring indicating buildings below or above two storeys high & “leisure/holiday homes”. The maps indicate privately maintained roads & include all other information expected of topographic survey at this scale. The maps have a 1-km UTM grid, plus latitude & longitude lines 5’ intervals. Topographic survey of Catalonia at 1:25, 000 from the Institut Cartogràfic i Geològic de Catalunya, an attractive alternative to Spain’s national topographic survey at this scale, offering a much larger area per sheet with extensive tourist information & vivid presentation of vegetation & land use. These large, detailed maps have contours at 10m intervals enhanced by hill shading & fine colouring and/or graphics to portray of vegetation or land use (different types of woodlands, marshl&, vineyards, crops, etc). An overprint highlights waymarked local & long-distance GR footpaths plus CT cycling routes. Also highlighted are picturesque locations such as villages, isolated buildings or natural features. A very wide range of symbols indicate various facilities, places of interest & recreational sites: tourist information centres, campsites & other rural accommodation, cultural heritage, vineries, wildlife observation areas, viewpoints & beauty spots, sites for recreational pursuits including horse riding, water sports, paragliding, etc The maps are divided by the publishers into three types: Administrative Units, Natural Protected Areas, & Geographical Areas, as shown on our grid for this series. Coverage by each sheet varies; most maps present an area of 30 x 23km (19 x 14km approx). The maps have a 1km UTM grid, with latitude & longitude values shown for the map corners. Map No. 10141, Sortl&, in the new topographic survey of Norway at 1:50, 000 covering the country on 195 double-sided sheets & first published by Nordeca in 2011
- 2012; fully GPS compatible, indicating waymarked footpaths, campsites, tourist huts, illuminated ski runs, etc. The maps, now published by Nordeca, the successors to Statens Kartverk & its subsequent owners the Ugland Group, are printed on light, waterproof & tear-resistant synthetic paper. Each map covers an area of 62x 45 kilometres (39 x 28 miles approx.), with a 2-km overlap between the sheets. The maps have contours at 20m intervals (10m glacier contours), plus colouring & graphics to show cultivated areas, bogs, forests, etc. In addition to all the information expected of topographic mapping at this scale the maps distinguish between waymarked & unmarked footpaths & show campsites, tourist huts (serviced/self service/no supplies), country hotels & restaurants, & illuminated ski trails. The series uses EUREF89 (WGS84) datum & the maps have a 1-km UTM grid. Map legend is in Norwegian & English. Each title comes in a sturdy protective card envelope.

Topographic survey of Faroe Islands at 1:20, 000 prepared by the Danish national mapping agency Kort og Matrikelstyrelsen. The islands’ topography is vividly presented by contours at 5 metre intervals, enhanced by relief shading plus colouring and/or graphics for different types of terrain or vegetation (scree, boulders, etc). The maps show all the detail expected of the topographic mapping at this scale & have a 1-km UTM grid, plus margin ticks for latitude & longitude at 1’ & 2` respectively. Topographic coverage of mainland Spain at 1:25, 000 published by the Centro Nacional de Información Geograficá, the country’s civilian survey organization. The maps have contours at 10m intervals & colouring and/or graphics to show different types of vegetation or land use. Boundaries of national parks & other protected areas are marked. In addition to all the usual information shown on topographic maps at this scale, detailed presentation of the road & rail networks, rural tracks & paths, etc, the maps also show campsites. The maps have a 1-km UTM grid, with margin ticks for latitude & longitude at 1` intervals. Map legend is in Spanish only.PLEASE NOTE: our grid for the whole of Spain is in preparation

The 1:50 000 topographic map gives a more general picture of the ground features than a basic map. It shows settlements, houses, roads, cultivated areas, waterways, cutting areas, mires, rock exposures, & relief. One map sheet covers an area of 30 x 40 km & one centimetre corresponds to 500 metres on the ground. The 1:50, 000 topographic map is also an ideal complement to nautical charts as it provides useful information about the land areas adjacent to waterways. An English professor at North Carolina State University, Barbara Bennett spent a recent sabbatical as a hands-on volunteer, working with lions, leopards, & other wild creatures at Harnas Wildlife Foundation in Namibia. Based on her incredible experiences there, she authored this beautiful book

At the sanctuary, founder Marieta van der Merwe & her family care for more than 400 rescued, injured, & orphaned animals including cheetahs, leopards, lions, monkeys, meerkats, & wild dogs, as well as domestic dogs & cats. The animals come from farmers protecting their stock, from road accidents, & from misguided owners who try to domesticate wild pets. Harnas runs a variety of programs to heal, release, protect, & care for them.
