Scotland on a double-sided map at 1:300, 000 in a series of nine road maps from the AA, with particularly clear presentation of the road network, including speed cameras, & places of interest shown on a plain, unobtrusive base. Street plans of main towns highlight parking facilities.AA's regional road maps are characterised by their plain white base designed to provide an unobtrusive background for the road network & the names of towns & villages. Colouring is used only to show national parks & forest parks. Rivers & lakes are included, but other topographic information is limited to names of selected mountain ranges, peaks & valleys, plus spot heights. Steep roads have gradient signs. As expected from the AA, the road network is shown with considerable attention given to different types of junctions & interchanges. Primary route destinations are highlighted & detailed information is provided on locations of speed cameras indicating speed limits. Services areas, tolls, etc., are marked & driving distance are given on A & selected B roads. Railway lines are shown with stations & ferry routes are included. The plain base also provides a clear background for a very wide range of symbols highlighting and/or naming numerous places of interest, including National Trust or English Heritage sites & their equivalents in Scotland & Wales, sport & recreational facilities, caravan & campsites, etc. The maps have the British national grid lines. In this title: the index is divided between the two sides of the map. Unlike in the remaining titles in this series, the city centre plans of Glasgow & Edinburgh indicating main traffic arteries, one way streets & parking facilities are not indexed. The current edition of this map was published in 2011. ...

Harnessing recent developments in computer technology, the latest New Naturalist volume uses the most up-to-date & accurate maps, diagrams & photographs to analyse the diverse landscapes of Scotl&. Most people share an enthusiasm for beautiful & breathtaking scenery, explored variously through the physical challenge of climbing to the top of the tallest mountains or the joy of viewing the work of a painter; but while easy to admire from a distance, such landscapes are usually difficult to explain in words. Peter Friend highlights the many famous & much loved natural landscapes of Scotl&, ranging from the rolling, agricultural lowlands of the east to the wild & rugged mountains of the west, from the whitewashed villages of Galloway to the traditional fishing ports of the east. He provides detailed explanations for the wide variety of natural events & processes that have caused such an exciting range of surroundings. Setting apart the topography that has resulted from natural rather than man-made occurrences, Friend focuses on each region individually, from the windswept islands that fringe the Atlantic to the sheltered straths of Perthshire, & explains the history & development of their land structures through detailed descriptions & colourful diagrams. Illustrated with beautifully detailed photographs throughout, Scotland comprehensively explores the formation of these wonderful landscapes that are so universally admired. ...
