It is impossible to think of Russia today without thinking of Vladimir Putin. More than any other major national leader, he personifies his country in the eyes of the outside world, & dominates Western media coverage of it to an extraordinary extent. In Russia itself, he is likewise the centre of attention for detractors & supporters alike. But as Tony Wood argues, this overwhelming focus on the president & his personality means that we understand Russia less than we ever did before. Too much attention is paid to the man, & not enough to the country outside the Kremlin`s walls. In this timely & provocative analysis, Wood looks beyond Putin to explore the profound changes Russia has undergone since 1991. In the process, he challenges many of the common assumptions made about contemporary Russia. Though commonly viewed as an ominous return to Soviet authoritarianism, Putin`s rule should instead be seen as a direct continuation of Yeltsin`s in the 1990s. & though many of Russia`s problems today are blamed on legacies of the Soviet past, Wood argues that the core features of Putinism a predatory, authoritarian elite presiding over a vastly unequal society are integral to the system set in place after the fall of Communism. What kind of country has emerged from Russia`s post-Soviet transformations, & where might it go in future? Russia without Putin culminates in an arresting analysis of the country`s foreign policy identifying the real power dynamics behind its escalating clashes with the West & with reflections on the paths Russia might take in the 21st century. ...

Map No. F-10B in the TPC series: military topographic survey mapping covering the world's land masses & significant islands at 1:500, 000. The maps are useful as general topographical coverage where nothing else is available, although they are designed primarily as flying charts for military aircraft. TPC stands for Tactical Pilotage Chart. Relief is portrayed by a combination of contours (basic interval 500ft, intermediate contours shown where appropriate), elevation tinting & relief shading, plus spot heights. Towns, villages, major roads, railways & airports are shown but please note that many of the smaller settlements are not named & the road information is not necessarily up to date, as compilation & revision dates vary. Some air navigation information also appears on the map, such as radio beacons & restricted flying zones. Each TPC chart has both UTM & latitude/longitude grids overprinted on it, with additional margin ticks. IMPORTANT
- PLEASE NOTE: The series is gradually being withdrawn from sale to the general public & some sheets may no longer be available when ordered by us. Due to the nature of the map projection assembling these sheets to make a larger map is not recommended. in addition, colours used for relief are not constant throughout the series. In some areas of central Africa & South America the maps have blank spaces, reflecting localized deficiencies or inconsistencies in the survey data.
