Moss Side in 1889 in a fascinating series of reproductions of old Ordnance Survey plans in the Alan Godfrey Editions, ideal for anyone interested in the history of their neighbourhood or family. Two versions have been published for this area. Coverage stretches from Northumberland Road eastward to Carter Street, & from Range Road northward to Stretford Road. The west part of Green Heys is also included. Features on the 1889 version include Pepperhill Farm, Chorlton Abbey, Crown Brewery, Albert Brewery, Penitentiary, LB Offices, St Mary`s church, tramways & depot, Manchester Football Ground, Hullard Hill Farm, Alexandra Brewery, etc. On the reverse are street directory entries for Alexandra Road, Great Western Street, Moss Lane Upper, Upper Chorlton Road. On the 1915 version the area is even more built up with terraces & there is an extensive electric tram network. Street directory entries for Greenheys Lane, Preston Street, Upper Moss Lane & Warwick Street are on the reverse.
