Encapsulated version of the Modern World Antique-Style Map from Ray & Co. (136 x 92 cm / 3’5” x 3” approx.) which offers a combination of current political information presented in the style of old antique maps, with ships & monsters on the high seas, old style italic typefaces, etc. Country, city & other place names are given in English. Plenty of names of geographical features are provided to supplement the lovely drawings of mountain chains. On oceans names and/or directions of currents & trade winds are marked, with the prevailing wind directions also indicated over some of the land masses. The Equator & the Greenwich Meridian are indicated by colourful lines, with other latitude & longitude lines drawn at 15° intervals & presented with clocks indicating approximate time zones. A rosette gives the points of the compass & panels presents the old flag alphabet with the Morse code & different types of knots.PLEASE NOTE: This is not a reproduction of an antique map, just lovely way to present the modern world in a good old-fashioned way! This map is also available on paper.LAMINATED & ENCAPSULATED WALL MAPS:- laminated wall maps have a thin layer of plastic usually applied to the printed side only. They can be written on with suitable marker pens without any damage to the map but, unless laminated on both sides, they are not damp-proof.- encapsulated wall maps are sealed between two sheets of plastic. They are more rigid & heavier than laminated maps of the same size. They are damp-proof & do not crinkle in humid conditions. Encapsulation gives the map a shiny surface, similar to being displayed behind glass.- please note: many publishers & retailers often use these two terms interchangeably.
