This new title from Bradt tells the inspiring & emotional story of Ishbel Holmes, also known as World Bike Girl, a Scottish-Iranian woman who became a champion racing cyclist in spite of having been abandoned by her family, & who set off on the adventure of a lifetime despite her lack of experience, money or equipment. Ishbel Holmes was determined to cycle the world but her journey took a completely unexpected turn when, despite her initial instincts not to, she rescued a street dog in Turkey. Ishbel was lost & alone when she started on her epic trip, but in Lucy found a companionship never previously known. Between the two there formed a deep bond & their relationship was followed & supported by thousands of readers online, before becoming a media sensation overnight when Ishbel put out a plea for help to transport Lucy to an animal shelter three hundred miles away. This heart-rending tale is about more than just the relationship between a woman & her dog. It is a testimony to the human spirit, overcoming present-day challenges & churning up long-buried & painful memories from Ishbel s earlier life. It is also a tale of adventure, one person s determination to cross an unfamiliar country by bike & the unforgettable scenes that greet her on the Turkey-Syria border & into Syria itself. & it is a loving portrait of Lucy, the street dog that was determined not to let Ishbel go & whose dogged persistence helped to break down the barriers around her heart & in so doing change her life in ways she had never imagined. Ultimately, this is a tale of love & healing, a modern fable that touches the soul & reminds us all of the need to belong. ...

I tripped across the Charles Bridge just before first light, all alone apart from a sleepy pickpocket just clocking on for the morning shift, my heels clacking on the cobblestones, the early morning sky a beautiful deep blue. Armed only with a romantic soul & a pressing need to escape her overbearing family, Rachael Weiss heads for Prague in search of her Bohemian roots, with vague plans to write the next great Australian novel & perhaps, just perhaps, fall madly in love with an exotic Czech man with high cheekbones. They make it seem so easy, those other women who write of uprooting themselves from everything they know, crossing the world & forming effortless friendships with strangers, despite not understanding a word they say, while reinventing themselves in beautiful European cities. So it`s not surprising that Rachael is completely unprepared for the realities that confront her in her strange new world. Initially starry-eyed, she quickly has to grapple with perplexing plumbing, extraordinarily rude checkout chicks, & the near-incomprehensible Czech language. In this warm & witty tale of life in a foreign l&, Rachael, somewhat to her own surprise, finds herself gradually creating a second home in Prague, complete with an eccentric & unlikely tribe of extended family & friends; & realises along the way that while she`s been striving so hard to become someone else, she has inadvertently grown to rather like the person she has always been. Me, Myself & Prague is a sweet & surprising memoir of discovering hope, self, family & friendship, Czech-style. ...

A collection of Penelope Fitzgerald`s short stories. Penelope Fitzgerald was one of the most highly-regarded writers on the English literary scene. Apart from Iris Murdoch, no other writer has been shortlisted so many times for the Booker. Her last novel, ` The Blue Flower`, was the book of its year, garnering extraordinary acclaim in Britain, America & Europe. This superb collection of stories, originally published in anthologies & newspapers, shows Penelope Fitzgerald at her very best. From the tale of a young boy in 17-century England who loses a precious keepsake & finds it frozen in a puddle of ice, to that of a group of buffoonish amateur Victorian painters on a trip to Brittany, these stories are characteristically wide ranging, enigmatic & very funny. They are each miniature studies of the endless absurdity of human behaviour. ...
