Saladin remains one of the most iconic figures of his age. As the man who united the Arabs & saved Islam from Christian crusaders in the 12th century, he is the Islamic world`s preeminent hero. Ruthless in defence of his faith, brilliant in leadership, he also possessed qualities that won admiration from his Christian foes. He knew the limits of violence, showing such tolerance & generosity that many Europeans, appalled at the brutality of their own people, saw him as the exemplar of their own knightly ideals. But Saladin is far more than a historical hero. Builder, literary patron & theologian, he is a man for all times, & a symbol of hope for an Arab world once again divided. Centuries after his death, in cities from Damascus to Cairo & beyond, to the Arabian Peninsula & the Gulf, Saladin continues to be an immensely potent symbol of religious & military resistance to the West. He is central to Arab memories, sensibilities & the ideal of a unified Islamic state. In this authoritative biography, historian John Man brings Saladin & his world to life in vivid detail. Charting his rise to power, his struggle to unify the warring factions of his faith, & his battles to retake Jerusalem & expel Christian influence from Arab lands, Saladin explores the life & the enduring legacy of this champion of Islam, & examines his significance for the world today. ...

Cooking the saladish way has been Ilene Rosen`s genius since she unveiled the first kale salad at New York`s City Bakery almost two decades ago, & now she shares 100 fresh & creative recipes, organised seasonally, from the intoxicatingly aromatic (Toasty Broccoli with Curry Leaves & Coconut) to the colourfully hearty (Red Potatoes with Chorizo & Roasted Grapes). Each chapter

No topic has gripped the public imagination so dramatically as the spectre of global jihadism. While much has been said about the way jihadists behave, their ideology remains poorly understood. Shiraz Maher charts the intellectual underpinnings of salafi-jihadism from its origins in the mountains of the Hindu Kush to the jihadist insurgencies of the 1990s & the 9/11 wars. His ground-breaking introduction to salafi-jihadism recalibrates our understanding of the ideas underpinning one of the most destructive political philosophies of our time. ...

The 1:50, 000 topographic map gives a more general picture of the ground features than a basic map. It shows settlements, houses, roads, cultivated areas, waterways, cutting areas, mires, rock exposures, & relief. One map sheet covers an area of 30 x 40 km & one centimetre corresponds to 500 metres on the ground. The 1:50, 000 topographic map is also an ideal complement to nautical charts as it provides useful information about the land areas adjacent to waterways. For example, all Finnish sea areas are covered by 1:50, 000 topographic map sheets. ...

- MAP TITLES: the grids shown on our website serve both the civilian & the military 1:50, 000 topographic series. Although the areas covered by maps in both series are identical (apart from some border or coastal sheets), occasionally map titles differ – only one title is shown on the grid, usually the military one. In Galicia, the Basque country & in the Catalan speaking areas the tendency now is to use local place names rather than the often better known Castilian ones. Where possible, both versions are included in our titles. Map titles listed on our website are based on information received by us at the time of publication, but sometimes maps arrive showing a completely different title! As long as the map number is as ordered, the correct map has been supplied.
