Lunigiana at 1:50, 000 in a series of hiking maps from Edizioni Multigraphic covering Tuscany, parts of Umbria, & the adjoining areas. The cartography is rather old fashioned & sometimes not as clear as in the other map series but for many areas, especially for parts of Tuscany, these are the only hiking maps available. Most maps have contours at 25-metre intervals, with some relief shading & colouring for forests. An overprint highlights hiking paths, including all the popular hiking routes such as the Grandi Sentieri della Provincia di Siena, etc. The overprint also shows campsites &, where appropriate, mountain refuges & other types of alpine accommodation. Some of the maps indicate latitude & longitude at the map corners, but with longitude sometimes based on Rome rather than Greenwich. Map legends vary, most maps include English. Many maps include street plans & additional notes on the region. For more details see individual descriptions. In this title: an enlargement of a map which must have been originally produced at a less detailed scale, with very large print for place names & other information. There are no contours, only faint altitude colouring & numerous spot heights. Local hiking paths & places of interest are highlighted. Geographical coordinates at the map corners are based on Greenwich. Map legend

It shows settlements, houses, roads, cultivated areas, waterways, cutting areas, mires, rock exposures, & relief. One map sheet covers an area of 30 x 40 km & one centimetre corresponds to 500 metres on the ground. The 1:50, 000 topographic map is also an ideal complement to nautical charts as it provides useful information about the land areas adjacent to waterways. For example, all Finnish sea areas are covered by 1:50, 000 topographic map sheets. ...

This yarn takes place in the suburbs of a giant city. In Brasilia they`re coming off their night shift, in Tokyo they`re having their first whisky sours
- that`s what`s happening elsewhere in the world when our hero wakes up. Together with his wife & dog, he lives at home with his parents. He has had the good education &, until recently, the good job. In other words, the juggernaut of meaning was not parked heavily on our hero`s lawn. But then the lurid overtakes him
- & whether this lurid tone is caused by our hero`s new unemployment, or his feelings for a girl who is not his wife, or the return of his old friend Hiro, it`s hard to say. What`s definite is that a chain of events begins that feels to those inside it, narcotic & neurotic, like one long & terrible descent
- complete with lies, deciet, & chicanery; one orgy, one brothel, & a series of firearms disputes. While if you start to notice minute doubles & repeats, or wonder if what you took as some trick of perspective might in fact be a kink of reality, perhaps that shouldn`t be so much of a surprise... For very possibly this suburban noir as the story of a woebegone & global generation
- & our hero, the sweetest narrator in world literature, may well also be the most fearsome.
