Long Melford 1902
Long Melford in 1902 in a fascinating series of reproductions of old Ordnance Survey plans in the Alan Godfrey Editions, ideal for anyone interested in the history of their neighbourhood or family. The map is double-sided; the main map covers an area stretching from Rotten Row and Station Road (the station itself is not covered) northward a mile to Brook House and Bull Lane. Features include several malthouses and the two railway lines fanning out either side of the main road. The backing map takes coverage further north and includes Melford Hall, part of Melford Park, Melford Green, Westgate Lane and (at the top of the map) Holy Trinity church. The plans have been taken from the Ordnance Survey mapping and reprinted at about 15 inches to one mile (1:4, 340). On the reverse most maps have historical notes and many also include extracts from contemporary directories.
