The UK has produced some of the most original, exciting & influential bands in the world & most of these bands have cut their teeth in the network of music venues that criss-cross the capital. Some of these venues have achieved a mythical status whilst others have fallen by the wayside Imagine walking past some grubby old snooker hall unaware that Pink Floyd had played it in the 1960s. To those that care about music this is interesting! The aim of the book is to give a concise & complete history of the live music venues in London from the 1930s to the present day. Each entry consists of basic information such as address, nearest tube/train station, website, phone number, capacity & any live recordings (albums, DVDs) made there. Then there follows a history of the building & venue (when built, previous uses etc) & information about noteworthy gigs to have happened there. Of the 470 plus venues in this guide 250 have photographs of their most recent exteriors & some also feature interior shots. ...

Have you ever wondered why so many gin distilleries set up in London, even to this day? Or why some gin made in other countries is known as London Dry Gin? This spirited book will reveal why London has been so important to gin makers for centuries & why the popular drink even sparked a riot. Even now, you are not allowed to make you own gin but is mother`s ruin really so bad for you? Did you know, for example, that it can help both arthritis & period pain? Or that the term ` Dutch courage` was originated because soldiers would drink what was then known as Dutch gin to keep warm? This book isn`t just a history of gin in London & the London style of gin but contains often startling facts about the recently revived favourite. Gordon might be out of favour but other London gins are proving a tonic to the drinks` market. ...
