Tracy Edwards is a true heroine of our time. Against unimaginable odds she captained the first all-woman crew in the longest, toughest yacht race in the word. Her boat Maiden broke British records in the Whitbread Round-the-World Yacht Race in 1989. It was a feet no-one, especially the predominantly male sailing world, had believed was possible. Tracy followed it in 1998 with a dramatic attempt on the Jules Verne Trophy to break the record for circumnavigating the globe. Sadly, this time 40-foot seas & a broken mast ended her chances. Having been lucky enough to survive the worst the sea had to offer she was still planning a further voyage when, at the end of 1999, aged 37, Tracy gave birth to her daughter Mackenna & life took on a new perspective, finally convincing her that the sea can no longer take first place in her heart & soul.
