Landscape is presented by altitude colouring & contours lines at 100m intervals, with spot heights & a few more names of topographic features than found on Vektor’s 200K road maps of the country. National parks & nature reserves are prominently highlighted. The prefecture maps appear to show the same small local dirt roads as in the 200K series, but given the increase in scale do so with greater clarity & also provide more detailed GPS coordinates (latitude & longitude lines are drawn at 5’ intervals), useful when travelling across the more remote parts of the country. Topographical survey of Belgium at 1:50, 000 from the country’s national survey organization, Nationaal Geografisch Instituut / Institut Géographique National. Contour interval varies according to the terrain, from 2.5 metres in the coastal areas to 10 metres in the Ardennes. The maps provide all the information expected of topographic mapping at this scale & in addition have an unusually large amount of vegetation and/or land use information (different types of woodlands, gardens, orchards, heath, etc). Each standard sheet covers Approx. 32 x 20 km / 20 x 12 miles, with larger maps published for the border or coastal areas. Liège Province at 1:100, 000 in a series of GPS compatible topographic maps from the Nationaal Geografisch Instituut/ Institut Géographique National, Belgium’s national survey organization, each with a separate index booklet covering the whole country. Described by the publishers as a topographic series, the maps do carry all the information expected of topographic mapping at this scale, but are not contoured & show altitude only by spot heights. Colours & graphics present the terrain & land cover: rocks, dunes, moors & heathl&, orchards, woodlands, swamps & marshl&, etc. Road network is finely graded according to width & the number of lanes. Footpaths are marked, but the maps do not distinguish between waymarked hiking paths or long-distance GR routes & other local paths. The maps also indicate administrative subdivisions of the provinces into districts & communes. The maps have latitude & longitude lines at intervals of 5’.
