Topographic coverage of mainland Spain at 1:50, 000 in the MTN50 (Mapa Topográfico Nacional) series from the Centro Nacional de Información Geografica, the country’s civilian survey organization. The maps have contours at 20m intervals, enhanced by relief shading, plus colouring and/or graphics to show different types of terrain, vegetation or land use. Boundaries of national parks & other protected areas are marked. In addition to all the usual information featured on topographic mapping at this scale, detailed presentation of the road & rail networks, rural tracks & paths, etc, the maps also show campsites & mountain refuges. On more recent editions some GRs, the official long-distance hiking routes, are also marked (although not as clearly as on hiking maps from other publishers). Each map covers 29.5x 18.5 km (with adjustments in the border or coastal areas). The maps have a 1-km UTM grid, plus margin ticks for latitude & longitude at 1` intervals. Map legend is in Spanish only.HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT 50K MAP: all the titles in CNIG’s 200K Provincial Road Maps series at 1:200, 000 are overprinted with the grid for the 1:50, 000 maps & can be used to see the area covered by each 50K title. TO SEE THE LIST OF TITLES IN THIS SERIES PLEASE CLICK ON THE SERIES LINK.PLEASE NOTE
- MAP TITLES: the grids shown on our website serve both the civilian & the military 1:50, 000 topographic series. Although the areas covered by maps in both series are identical (apart from some border or coastal sheets), occasionally map titles differ – only one title is shown on the grid, usually the military one. In Galicia, the Basque country & in the Catalan speaking areas the tendency now is to use local place names rather than the often better known Castilian ones. Where possible, both versions are included in our titles. Map titles listed on our website are based on information received by us at the time of publication, but sometimes maps arrive showing a completely different title! As long as the map number is as ordered, the correct map has been supplied.

As much as London, New York & Los Angeles, Paris has been hijacked by street artists who have transformed public spaces into giant showrooms with their posters, stickers, silk-screens, paintings, mosaics, murals, stencils & photocopies. Photographer & art historian Fabienne Grevy leads a tour of Paris` popular art, exhibited on pavements, stairways, metro stations, abandoned buildings & anywhere else an artist found a patch of open space. The inspirations for these images is as diverse as the artists producing them, & recognizable sources range from the cave paintings at Lascaux to nineteenth-century Japanese blockprints to graphic design to cartoons & comics & even some rather reflexive street art about street art itself. ...

In the famous Brown v Board of Education of Topeka case of 1954, the United States Supreme Court ruled that segregated schools violated the equal protection of the laws guaranteed by the Fourteenth Amendment of the Constitution. This decision marked a critical turning point in the American judicial system, which, since the Jim Crow Laws of the 1880s, had previously upheld the practice of segregation. The outcome of the Supreme Court case encouraged a growing challenge to segregation on all levels, thus creating a momentum that would, within a decade, lead to the Civil Rights & Voting Acts that definitively guaranteed African Americans equal protection under the law. The Civil Rights Movement itself, from 1954 to 1968, marked a climactic era in the struggle for political equal rights for African Americans. After World War II, the economic boom & America`s advocacy of individual self-determination on the international scene made segregation in the United States more obsolete & even more unjustifiable. Through a combination of charismatic leadership & grass-root support, the period saw the revocation of the segregationist laws that had pervaded American society for two hundred years. However, this famous era marks neither the beginning nor the end of the African-American fight for equality, & this book tells, through photographs, the story of the struggle in its widest scope for the first time. From the bonds of slavery to Civil Rights, from the Deep South to the northern metropolis, from the Harlem Renaissance to the riots in South Central LA, this book reveals the African-American struggle for equality from the first photographic records in the 19th century all the way to the present. The photographs reveal the journey in all its complexity & nuance. They cover the struggle in its many different aspects: political, social, economic, & cultural, showing the incredible courage & determination of people fighting for a common goal, as well as the internal conflicts & contradictions. It is a story that has sometimes been in the front lights, but more often in the shadows, & which has changed American society & touched the lives of millions. The selection of photographs presents milestone events, such as the Montgomery Bus Boycott & the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr, through famous as well as rarely-seen images; it shows iconic figures such as W.E.B. Du Bois & Malcolm X in an unusual light; but it also

Includes::
a wide range of images of the everyday struggle & lives of the people, from the rural Deep South to the urban agglomerations of Chicago & Detroit, & to the very heart of modern African-American culture, Harlem. Renowned experts on the subject of African-American history Manning Marable & Leith Mullings give this book & its still highly controversial subject matter thoughtful scholarship & authority.
