A remarkable, multifaceted story made up of journal accounts, memories, conversations & personal experience, The Bronski House is a paean to Pol&, a landmark in travel writing, & a family history
- tied together by the unique experience of returning from exile. In the summer of 1992, accompanied by Philip Marsden, the exiled poet Zofia Hinska stepped into the Belorussian village where she had spent her childhood. The Bronski House is in part the remarkable story of what she found. It is also the story of her mother, Helena Bronska
- of her coming of age during the Russian revolution, her dramatic escapes from Bolsheviks, Germans & partisans, of her love & loss in a now vanished world. It brilliantly reconstructs a world which vanished in 1939 when Soviet tanks rolled into eastern Pol&.

Heavyweight bronze 30-minute hourglass on wood st&. This sandglass is hand tooled from solid brass & the glass is hand blown. Designed for the Age of Sail, now at home in any oval or executive office. Collectable because of their combined historical & practical value. Ship’s hourglasses were calibrated to the half hours of the ship’s watch, & if the helmsman didn’t turn the glass too early it actually doubled in defining longitude. Navigators tried to keep count of the hours: the galleons wrecked on the Western Australian reefs remind us of the perils of incorrectly kept time.
