- encapsulated version, wall map from the National Geographic Society in their highly successful Executive style resembling antique maps in colouring, with muted hues for the land & the surrounding seas in shades of beige. The map has relief shading to show the topography, with different colours adopted for the constituent parts of the United Kingdom, Irish Republic, Isle of Man & Channel Islands. Shetland Islands are shown as an inset. Within Great Britain, national parks are prominently highlighted. Names of many geographical regions are shown (The Wolds, Salisbury Plain, etc.); county boundaries are marked, but county names are indicated only for the larger counties of England
- other counties are numbered & cross-referenced to lists of counties & unitary authorities in Engl&, with corresponding lists for Scotl&, Wales, Northern Ireland & the Irish Republic. Latitude & longitude lines are drawn at intervals of 1°. In the Irish Republic place names are given in English, with larger towns such as Dublin or Cork annotated with their Irish equivalents.* This map is also available on paper without the encapsulation.*LAMINATED & ENCAPSULATED WALL MAPS:*- *laminated* wall maps have a thin layer of plastic usually applied to the printed side only. They can be written on with suitable marker pens without any damage to the map but, unless laminated on both sides, they are not damp-proof.- *encapsulated* wall maps are sealed between two sheets of plastic. They are more rigid & heavier than laminated maps of the same size. They are damp-proof & do not crinkle in humid conditions. Encapsulation gives the map a shiny surface, similar to being displayed behind glass.- *please note:* many publishers & retailers often use these two terms interchangeably. Our map titles & descriptions follow the definitions provided above.
