Topographic coverage of mainland Spain at 1:50, 000 in the MTN50 (Mapa Topográfico Nacional) series from the Centro Nacional de Información Geografica, the country’s civilian survey organization. The maps have contours at 20m intervals, enhanced by relief shading, plus colouring and/or graphics to show different types of terrain, vegetation or land use. Boundaries of national parks & other protected areas are marked. In addition to all the usual information featured on topographic mapping at this scale, detailed presentation of the road & rail networks, rural tracks & paths, etc, the maps also show campsites & mountain refuges. On more recent editions some GRs, the official long-distance hiking routes, are also marked (although not as clearly as on hiking maps from other publishers). Each map covers 29.5x 18.5 km (with adjustments in the border or coastal areas). The maps have a 1-km UTM grid, plus margin ticks for latitude & longitude at 1` intervals. Map legend is in Spanish only.HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT 50K MAP: all the titles in CNIG’s 200K Provincial Road Maps series at 1:200, 000 are overprinted with the grid for the 1:50, 000 maps & can be used to see the area covered by each 50K title. TO SEE THE LIST OF TITLES IN THIS SERIES PLEASE CLICK ON THE SERIES LINK.PLEASE NOTE
- MAP TITLES: the grids shown on our website serve both the civilian & the military 1:50, 000 topographic series. Although the areas covered by maps in both series are identical (apart from some border or coastal sheets), occasionally map titles differ – only one title is shown on the grid, usually the military one. In Galicia, the Basque country & in the Catalan speaking areas the tendency now is to use local place names rather than the often better known Castilian ones. Where possible, both versions are included in our titles. Map titles listed on our website are based on information received by us at the time of publication, but sometimes maps arrive showing a completely different title! As long as the map number is as ordered, the correct map has been supplied.

The deserts of the Middle East cover an area almost as large as Western Europe & include some of the most inhospitable places on Earth. But the customs of the Bedu, who have for centuries herded their livestock back & forth across this wilderness, developed in response to these grim conditions. Today, however, their nomadic culture is under threat with the encroachment of industrialisation & mineral exploitation onto their unfettered lands, & new generations are seeking employment rather than living off herds. Bedouin is a unique & beautiful portrait of the Arab nomad's life, rich in colour & culture. It depicts everything from their everyday chores of cooking & collecting water to the more exotic tasks of weaving, moving camp & celebrating feasts. ...

In my dreams, I was always in some vast landscape on a long, straight road. Driving. Always driving.` Gwenda had always loved the open road, but her home town of Newcastle didn`t really offer the sort of adventure she longed for. So, in 1957, with friend & fellow nurse Pat in tow, she left the dismal British winter behind, & embarked on an amazing American adventure. After a year nursing in Clevel&, Gwenda, Pat & three new friends set off on a road trip around North America, driving in a rickety 1949 Ford. What follows is the charming true story of five remarkable young women. Over the course of eighteen months, the girls go to a 4th July rodeo, visit San Francisco & Las Vegas, learn to surf in Hawaii, spot movie stars in Hollywood & celebrate Mardi Gras in New Orleans. Wherever they go, the travelling nurses cause a sensation. This is a delightfully nostalgic memoir of friendship & the romance of the open road. ...

Bee is a book of photographs in magnifications ranging from 10x to 5000x. Presenting views of the bee s eyes, wings, antennae, hair, sting & more. Bee aims to inspire surprise, curiosity & awe through the unique perspective provided by scanning electron microscopy, melding art & science in these images. When our frame of reference is shifted, the interplay of observation & imagination can inspire new ideas, connections & applications. People are generally very surprised by these images, & actually stop to look & consider them. Children, who often love insects, are fascinated by seeing what a bee looks like very close up. This is therefore surprisingly a family book, as well as a book for photographers, artists, designers, gardeners, environmentalists, engineers, architects, those interested in bio design & bio mimicry. From the author: I believe that by seeing what exists in the micro world we may become more sensitised, mindful & caring about our familiar daily realm. My hope is that Bee will stimulate greater appreciation for the bees, more interest in learning about bees & learning from them too. We easily lose sight of our dependence on bees. Who thinks to thank the bees for our orange juice? For pollinating the blossoms of all the plants that produce our food supply; one of every three bites we take is dependent on bee pollination! Or to stop a moment & consider that bees must draw the nectar of more than two million flowers to make just one pound of honey? ...
