Australia at 1:5, 000, 000 is an indexed map with additional street plans & enlargements of popular regions on the reverse. The publisher has chosen to concentrate on creating a map which will primarily be of use for a tourist navigating between main points of interest as opposed to stressing more detailed cartography. National roads with route numbers, highways & untarred roads are extremely clearly marked, as are airports, major petrol stations & caravan parks. State borders are demarcated. National parks & reserves & Aboriginal reserves are all specifically highlighted. Also included on the map are small charts for Perth, Darwin, Adelaide, Alice Springs, Cairns, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne & Hobart indicating average temperatures, levels of rainfall & hours of sunlight for each month. in addition a table showing distances between main towns across the country is provided & the map is illustrated with some colour photographs. On the reverse of the map are street plans of Darwin, Perth city centre, Fremantle, Cairns, Adelaide city centre, Brisbane, Melbourne, Canberra & Sydney, as well as local road maps for the surrounding areas of Perth, Cairns, Darwin, Melbourne & Sydney, maps of the both the Hobart & Alice Springs areas, the Snowy Mountains & the stretch of coast from Warrnambool to Geelong.
