West Bengal in a series of waterproof & tear-resistant maps from Bharat Graphics, showing local districts in different colours & indicating both administrative headquarters of each district & of its subdivisions, the tehsils (or tahsils, tahasils, talukas, taluks, taluqs). Roads are classified as national or state highways & other roads, some with driving distances. Railway lines are also marked & some titles have symbols indicating places of interest or rest houses. Maps of states in mountainous areas show names of main valleys, on other titles there is no topographic information. The maps have no geographical coordinates. Some titles include insets with enlargements of popular areas or street plans, & distance tables. All the maps are indexed & have a small booklet providing a basic guide to the state district by district. The maps are printed on a waterproof & tear-resistant paper. Two versions have been published for this area. The maps cover most of West Bromwich, stretching from Bond Street & St John`s church northward to West Bromwich Workhouse, & from Claypit Lane eastward to Dartmouth Park. Features on the 1886 version include the town centre, Christ Church, St Andrew`s church, Scale & Spring Balance Works, Town Hall, GWR railway with West Bromwich & Swan Village stations, part of Dartmouth Park, tramway, Guns Village area, Ireland Green Colliery; several disused collieries including Cordley, Cutlers End, Whyley, Tantany & Cronehills Collieries; Albion Bluebrick Works, Victoria Bluebrick Works, Albion football ground, Lyndon, Workhouse, etc. The 1886 version is in colour, taken from the beautiful h&-coloured 1st Edition. About the Alan Godfrey Editions of the 25” OS Series: Selected towns in Great Britain & Ireland are covered by maps showing the extent of urban development in the last decades of the 19th & early 20th century. The plans have been taken from the Ordnance Survey mapping & reprinted at about 15 inches to one mile (1:4, 340). On the reverse most maps have historical notes & many also include extracts from contemporary directories.
