Jan Morris’ Venice is an impassioned portrait of one of the world’s most glorious cities by ‘one of our greatest writers’ (according to the The Times). Divided into three sections which explore the Venetian people, the city itself & the lagoon on which it stands, Venice enriches any visit to that great city
- be it in person, or simply in the mind. An impassioned evocation of Venice that is tantamount to a witty love letter to Italy`s most iconic city. Vivid prose, humour & irony are used to present a highly personal, yet accessible portrait of this glorious, eccentric city.

Often hailed as one of the best travel books ever written, Venice is neither a guide nor a history book, but a beautifully written immersion in Venetian life & character, set against the background of the city`s past. Analysing the particular temperament of Venetians, as well as its waterways, its architecture, its bridges, its tourists, its curiosities, its smells, sounds, lights & colours, there is scarcely a corner of Venice that Jan Morris has not investigated & brought vividly to life. This ITMB map of Venice & Northern Italy shows the city of no cars brilliantly, showing every street & laneway, every water taxi stop, every church, public square, bridge, theatre, & a goodly number of hotels & restaurants. In size, Venice is small, which is fortunate because walking & taking a boat are the only ways to get around. Lovely though the city is, one needs to get there & also see other parts of Italy, so the reverse side has a map of the northern half of the country, from Rome to the northern border. The map has been printed on waterproof paper, more for durability than climactic reasons, & the back cover
