London at 1:19, 000 is an indexed map with additional street plans & enlargements of popular regions. The publisher has chosen to concentrate on creating a map which will primarily be of use for a tourist navigating between main points of interest as opposed to stressing more detailed cartography. Main & minor roads, rail lines & stations & tube station locations are extremely clearly marked on both the Central London & London City Centre maps. A small Greater London road map shows the M25 ring & all major motorways & A-roads coming into the capital, as well as the location of London airports. Also provided are a London underground map & a rail connections map from London train stations to main towns & cities across the country. Car parks are shown on the map. The emphasis is most definitely on a producing a general navigational, tourist related map with things such as hotels & museums, theatres, churches, hospitals, post offices & parks as well as other places of visitor interest all specifically highlighted. Areas of London are also named i.e. Mayfair & Soho but London boroughs are not delineated. Also included on the map are small charts indicating average temperatures, levels of rainfall & hours of sunlight for each month in London & a calendar of events. Also included is a street map showing the area beyond Tower Bridge to the Thames Barrier, complete with transport links.
