A walker, a reader & a gazer, Sharifa Rhodes-Pitts is also a skilled talker whose impromptu kerbside exchanges with Harlem`s most colourful residents are transmuted into a slippery, silky set of observations on what change & opportunity have wrought in this small corner of a big city, Harlem, with its outsize reputation & even-larger influence. Hers is a beguilingly well-written meditation on the essence of black Harlem, as it teeters on the brink of seeing its poorer residents & their rich histories turfed out by commercial developers intent on providing swish condos for cool-seeking (and mostly white) gentrifiers. In a mix of oral history, conversations with scholars & hobos, thoughtful musings on notable antecedents & illustrious Harlemites of the twentieth century, & her own story of migration (from Texas to Harlem via Harvard), Rhodes-Pitts exhibits a sensitivity & subtlety & stillness in her writing that is very impressive & very promising. There are echoes of Joan Didion`s distinctive rhythms & pauses in her prose, without it ever feeling derivative. This is an exceptionally striking & alluring debut. ...

` She`s experienced wealth, cultural alienation, homelessness, brushes with fame, prison, rehab, record deals, a million blown second chances, a dozen broken hearts & one bloody-knuckled ultimate spiritual redemption. She even died once in the process, & may very well have had sex with your wife back in the eighties...` Elizabeth Gilbert When she was seven, Rayya Elias & her upper-class family fled the political conflict in their native Syria, settling in a suburb of Detroit. Bullied in school & caught between the world of her traditional family & her tough American classmates, she rebelled early. Rayya moved to New York City to become a musician & kept herself afloat with an uncommon talent for cutting hair. Eventually though, Elias`s affairs with lovers of both sexes went awry, her (more than) occasional drug use turned to addiction & she found herself living on the streets
- between visits to jail. Told with a keen sense of humour & a lack of self-pity in even the most harrowing situations, Harley Loco is a memoir about jumping in head-first, no questions asked. It`s a book about living in the moment no matter what that might bring, & about pursuing, not always by choice, a life of extremes
- highs & lows, pain & passion
- until ultimately arriving at a place of contentment & peace.

A practical guide to what we have lost in the modern world, why we have lost it & how easily it is to rediscover. Harmony is a blueprint for a more balanced, sustainable world that the human race must create to survive. For more than 30 years His Royal Highness Prince Charles The Prince of Wales has been at the forefront of a growing ecological movement. Originally treated with scepticism, many of his ideas are now widely accepted & gaining increasing impact & influence. His work has sought to meet a huge range of modern challenges, from urbanisation to deforestation. In every case, however, the philosophy that is the foundation of his work has always been the same, but has always been unspoken, until now. For the first time, Prince Charles, with the help of his two leading advisors, has brought together his vast knowledge & experience to set out this philosophy
- a philosophy that is as robust as it is practical. In Harmony, Prince Charles looks at different aspects of our modern world to demonstrate how many of the challenges seen in areas as diverse as architecture, farming & medicine can be traced to how we have abandoned a classical sense of balance & proportion. From the rice farms of India to America`s corn belt, Harmony spans the globe, dissecting the specific practices of modern life that have put us at odds with the world & showing how this imbalance manifests itself throughout our lives. Harmony shows how the imbalance that has emerged is at heart of a crisis which now threatens our very civilisation. It tells the story of how our disconnection from Nature has contributed to the greatest crisis in the history of mankind & how seeking balance in our actions will return us to a more considered, secure, comfortable & cleaner world. Drawing on his own practical experience, Prince Charles charts how changes to how we look at the world could lead us toward a better future. He describes how knowledge & perspectives now largely lost could help us meet very modern challenges, including in the built environment, engineering, medicine & farming.

Although the areas covered by maps in both series are identical (apart from some border or coastal sheets), occasionally map titles differ – only one title is shown on the grid, usually the military one. In Galicia, the Basque country & in the Catalan speaking areas the tendency now is to use local place names rather than the often better known Castilian ones. Where possible, both versions are included in our titles. Map titles listed on our website are based on information received by us at the time of publication, but sometimes maps arrive showing a completely different title!
