Eton & Eton Wick in 1899 in a fascinating series of reproductions of old Ordnance Survey plans in the Alan Godfrey Editions, ideal for anyone interested in the history of their neighbourhood or family. The sheetlines of the original Buckinghamshire series are rather unkind to Eton, cutting right through the College Cloisters, so the publishers have provided a double-sided map. The main map covers the centre of the College & the area westward to North Field, Eton Great Common, South Field; beyond is Eton Wick, with St John the Baptist church, which became a civil parish in its own right in 1894; also Eton Cottage Hospital, & New Town. In the south-west corner is Windsor Race Course with its grandst&. In the town Barnespool Bridge & part of the High Street are shown, also Folly Bridge, cemetery, St John`s church, gas works, Science School. On the reverse is over half of adjacent sheet 56.06 covering the eastern part of the College, Fifteen Arch Bridge, Beggar`s Bridge, Eton College Laundry. To the north-east is the hamlet of Mirk & the southern fringe of Slough, including Upton Court & St Lawrence`s church. In the south is part of the Public Recreation Ground, with the LSWR Windsor line looping through across the Thames. Together with maps covering Windsor & Slough this title forms a block of four maps.
