Collins Student World Atlas comes with an interactive CD which introduces Geographical Information Systems. The atlas has been specifically designed as a resource which increases knowledge of the world & its issues, providing world data to support projects & assignments & easy to understand geographical explanations. Digital cartography, showing significant population areas & natural & transport features, is displayed alongside a wide range of relevant & useful country based facts & information including an array of geo-political & economically thematic maps, statistical pie-charts & satellite images. In addition to the atlas pages, Collins have provided the student with an extensive independent section of thematic world reference maps, illustrating subjects such as poverty & aid, fuel production & energy, tourism & air transport. A section of world statistics & a dictionary of geographical facts conclude the atlas. International & administrative boundaries are shown, as well as, where applicable, disputed boundaries & ceasefire lines. Relief shading is given according to a contour interval scale & spot heights are shown. Maps are presented with lines of latitude & longitude at varying degree intervals, depending on what is most suitable to each page's cartography, & a letter/number grid combination locates indexed places. Cartography type is specified for physical maps, i.e. whether maps are displayed in accordance with variations on mercator, conic or azimuthal systems.
