Central Australia Hema
The very centre of Australia with Alice Springs and Uluru (Ayres Rock) on a regional touring map at 1:1, 200, 000 from Hema with tracks plotted by special field research and annotated with numerous GPS waypoints, plus other extensive tourist information, a list of facilities in the national parks, etc. Coverage extends north/south along the Stuart Highway from Tennant Creek in the Northern Territory to Woomera in South Australia, and west/east from the border of Western Australia to Windorah in Queensland and While Cliffs in New South Wales, so includes Alice Springs, Yulara with Uluru/Ayres Rock and Kata Tjuta/The Olgas, and the Simpson Desert. Presentation of the road network distinguishes between roads and outback tracks which were plotted during the fieldwork carried out by Hema
and other tracks shown on Australia’s 250K topographic survey and/or on other sources but not specifically verified by the publishers. Major junctions and isolated facilities are annotated with GPS waypoints. Many historic routes such as the Exploer’s Way or the Matilda Way are highlighted. An extensive range of symbols indicate different types of accommodation facilities, fuel and water supplies, general stores and meals, vehicle repair or medical facilities, and various places of interest, many annotated with brief notes and/or contact details. Topography is finely presented by graphics for sand ridges and salt flats, plus names of mountain ranges, etc. National parks and other protected area are highlighted, also Aboriginal Lands and restricted entry zones. In addition to
the GPS waypoints, the map has a latitude and longitude grid drawn at intervals of 1º.
