The Adirondacks & the north-eastern part of New York state at 1:1:389, 220 on a detailed, extensively indexed road map from Jimapco, highlighting numerous recreational facilities, plus enlargements for main towns. On one side is a road map at 1:285, 000 of the Adirondacks covering an area between the Canadian border & highway 90, & extending from the Vermont border to Utica & Rome. The map has relief shading to show the region’s topography, with plenty of peak names, rivers & lakes. Colouring indicates, according to map legend, “canoeing areas, intensive use areas, primitive areas, wild forests, wilderness areas, conservation easement areas, & areas not yet determined”. The map shows the region’s road & rail networks, plus local administrative boundaries. Extensive range of symbols highlight campgrounds, various recreational areas from fishing & climbing to seaplane rides & wildlife watching sites, historical & cultural sites & monuments, etc. The map has no geographical coordinates. On the reverse 30 panels show local towns in greater detail enlarged to 1:63, 360. Stanfords was established in 1853 and opened their iconic Covent Garden flagship store in 1901. They have become the top retailer of maps, travel books and accessories in the UK and arguably offer the largest selection of maps and travel books worldwide. Famous names such as Captain Robert Falcon Scott, Ranulph Fiennes and Michael Palin have purchased from Stanfords. They now have a shop in Bristol and both stores together with other venues operate a calendar of events including talks, book signings and exhibitions. As a specialist map retailer, the map selection is comprehensive and includes road maps, street maps and walking maps from worldwide destinations, as well as a selection of world atlases and wall maps.
