Covering the whole Atlantic coast of France, from Ouessant in the north to Hendaye on the Spanish border, this second edition of the RCC Pilotage Foundation’s guide has been thoroughly revised & updated by Nick Chavasse who has taken his Bowman 40, Wild Bird, into every main port & a multitude of anchorages, including explorations up the numerous navigable rivers. The plans have been revised & enhanced throughout & the coverage has been extended to include large scale detail for key areas including Lorient & the Gironde. Coverage of the Brittany coast west from L` Aberwrac`h, so often the gateway to the Chenal du Four, is now extended to include the islands of Ouessant & Molène. Many of the new photographs are on-the-water images which are invaluable to the navigator, but this edition also continues to benefit from Patrick Roach’s unique & informative aerial coverage. ` Atlantic France` is the authoritative cruising companion for this long & varied coastline with its sometimes-daunting tides & currents, & its publication has been welcomed both by first time visitors who are enjoying their first taste of the region & by old hands who are revisiting their favourite haunts. ...

This edition of IMRAY's pilot for the Atlantic Islands has been fully revised & incorporates new information collected from her visits to each of the archipelagos during 2003. It contains new plans, many necessitated by the surge in marina building, particularly in the Canaries, since the publication of the last edition. Many new colour photographs have been added. The standard production has been enhanced by the full use of colour & clearer definition of the island sections & references between them. Atlantic Islands is the only serious guide to the island groups & is an essential companion for yachts making the Atlantic passage. ...

When Anne Hammick started research on the first edition of Atlantic Islands back in 1987, few would have guessed the changes which 25 years would bring. Facilities for yachts have enhanced immeasurably in all four island groups, bureaucracy has decreased &, from being seen mainly as convenient stepping stones on the Atlantic passage, all the archipelagos are now accepted as cruising destinations in their own right. The fifth edition of Atlantic Islands builds on solid foundations
- the author's long familiarity with the area, an invaluable network of local contacts, & the constant flow of information & feedback received from yachtsmen & women during the lifetime of the previous edition. In 2010 the author set out to visit & photograph almost every harbour featured in the book, & while preparing the text & plans the following year was kept updated about on-going developments by cruising friends 'in the field'. Passage waypoints are now included
- though these should, as always, be used with caution
- in addition to many harbour plans available nowhere else. Nearly 300 new photographs illustrate the fifth edition, most from the author's own collection, & the use of colour for indexing & cross-referencing has also been increased. Whether you seek authoritative pilotage information, comprehensive details of available facilities, or simply suggestions for planning an enjoyable cruise, you will find them all in the fifth edition of Atlantic Islands.

Atlantic Ocean: North 36

Map No. G-24B in the TPC series: military topographic survey mapping covering the world's land masses and significant islands at 1:500, 000. The maps are useful as general topographical coverage where nothing else is available, although they are designed primarily as flying charts for military aircraft. TPC stands for Tactical Pilotage Chart.Relief is portrayed by a combination of contours (basic interval 500ft, intermediate contours shown where appropriate), elevation tinting and relief shading, plus spot heights. Towns, villages, major roads, railways and airports are shown but please note that many of the smaller settlements are not named and the road information is not necessarily up to date, as compilation and revision dates vary. Some air navigation information also appears
on the map, such as radio beacons and restricted flying zones. Each TPC chart has both UTM and latitude/longitude grids overprinted on it, with additional margin ticks. IMPORTANT - PLEASE NOTE: The series is gradually being withdrawn from sale to the general public and some sheets may no longer be available when ordered by us. Due to the nature of the map projection assembling these sheets to make a larger map is not recommended. Additionally, colours used for relief are not constant throughout the series. In some areas of central Africa and South America the maps have blank spaces, reflecting localized deficiencies or inconsistencies in the survey data.
