The Fishing Fleet: Husb&-Hunting in the Raj by Anne de Courcy tells the story of countless young women who, suffering at the lack of eligible young men, set off to India with a declared or undeclared goal to find a husband among many of Britain’s best & brightest men working there as administrators, soldiers & businessmen. With a ratio of roughly four to one, romance was easy to find but the reality of every day life in the remote outposts of the Empire was a far cry from the social whirlwind of their arrival. The book was very highly praised when reviewed on its publication & provides a fascinating insight into a less well known or documented aspects of the history of the Raj. ...

From the late 19th century, when the Raj was at its height, many of Britain`s best & brightest young men went out to India to work as administrators, soldiers & businessmen. With the advent of steam travel & the opening of the Suez Canal, countless young women, suffering at the lack of eligible men in Britain, followed in their wake. This amorphous band was composed of daughters returning after their English education, girls invited to stay with married sisters or friends, & yet others whose declared or undeclared goal was simply to find a husb&. They were known as the Fishing Fleet, & this book is their story, hitherto untold. For these young women, often away from home for the first time, one thing they could be sure of was a rollicking good time. By the early 20th century, a hectic social scene was in place, with dances, parties, amateur theatricals, picnics, tennis tournaments, cinemas & gymkhanas, with perhaps a tiger shoot & a glittering dinner at a raja`s palace thrown in. &, with men outnumbering women by roughly four to one, romances were conducted at alarming speed & marriages were frequent. But after the honeymoon, life often changed dramatically: whisked off to a remote outpost with few other Europeans for company, & where constant vigilance was required to guard against disease, they found it a far cry from the social whirlwind of their first arrival. Anne de Courcy`s sparkling narrative is enriched by a wealth of first-hand sources
- unpublished memoirs, letters & diaries rescued from attics
- which bring this forgotten era vividly to life.

Fishy Fishy is a relaxed, informal seafood brasserie in Brighton that was the brainchild of three close friends: James Ginzler, Dermot O` Leary & Paul Shovlin. They share a passion for good food, but more importantly food that has been locally sourced & is in season. They work closely with suppliers to make sure the fish they serve is caught in the least wasteful way which can mean line-caught fish, pot-caught seafood or fish caught in gill nets with big holes in them so they only catch the larger fish & let the small ones through. They only serve fish & seafood when it is in season
- that`s why there`s no cod on the menu in the summer or lobster in the winter. All their passion & expertise is contained in this lovely new cookbook which has over 90 recipes, as well as fascinating fish facts & plenty of advice on how to prepare & cook fish. With chapters on Starters, Barbecue & Alfresco Eating, Everyday Fish & Shellfish, Special Occasions, Sauces, Side Dishes & Desserts, there is plenty of inspiration for cooks of all levels. More than just a restaurant cookbook, this is a wonderful collection of recipes as well as a timely look at the ways we should be sourcing & eating fish.

Longlisted for the FT/ Mc Kinsey Business Book of the Year Award 2016 From immigration reform to energy resources, from political paralysis to inequality & extremism, we are beset by a raft of huge & seemingly insurmountable issues. The daily newspapers, the rolling 24-hour television news, portray a world in terminal decline: the rise of IS, the Syrian refugee crisis, Beijing`s financial fallibility & Putin`s brazen annexing of the Crimea. The ripples are felt by us all in our everyday lives
- in unemployment figures or, if we`re lucky, our stubbornly flat payslips, in the crumbling roads, Tube strikes & sky-rocketing tuition fees. What goes under-reported are the success stories. Here, taking ten of the most knotty issues we face today, Jonathan Tepperman examines unsung individuals` bold & innovative attempts against all odds & expectations to solve some of the important problems governments have struggled with for decades. Each chapter tells the story of one government that`s found a way to avoid the snares that entangle most of the others. The solutions described in the book aren`t speculative: they`ve all already been tried, & they work. Controversial, provocative but always stimulating, Tepperman here offers a powerful, data-driven case for optimism. Written with flair & an infectious exuberance, The Fix is a book to restore hope to the pessimistic, & offer both practical advice & inspiration in a time of relentless bad news.
