This book is essentially an autobiography but it traces in particular the changes which occurred in British agriculture during the second half of the twentieth century The author writes from his experience of being brought up on a farm studying for an agricultural degree farming in a family partnership & a career in agricultural consultancy He details consultancy experience gained in South Yorkshire in an area of small Pennine family farms which were mainly grassland in Warwickshire where the farming was more mixed & in Essex where the farms were large with the accent on arable crops The consultancy section concludes with experience in management in Somerset & Gloucestershire Later chapters deal with early retirement travelling & a further career as a part-time Anglican minister
