The Ideal DSL Firewall/ Router The Vigor 2760 is a DSL router ideal for your small office or home business/office. It provides connectivity to your PCs or other Internet-connected devices (laptops tablets games consoles smartphones) via its built-in Gigabit Ethernet ports or using Wireless LAN (on 'n' models). The firewall helps protect your network from external threats as well as the Vigor 2760's built-in content filtering which gives you control over what & when your local users can access or download. The Vigor 2760 series can alternatively connect to an Ethernet Internet connection such as that from a cable modem (e.g. Virgin Media) instead of connecting to a ADSL/VDSL line. Compatible 3G/4G (LTE) modems can also optionally be added to the USB (Universal Serial Bus) port to provide backup or main Internet connectivity without any fixed line. For Wireless LAN usage the Vigor 2760n version supports multiple security methods including strong encryption but also hardware-specific authorisation & selectable client isolation (from each other). also available is the vigor 2760 Vn which in addition provide two Vo IP phone ports giving you the equivalent of two extra voice phone lines to make & receive calls either to other compatible Vo IP users or to/from regular phones/mobiles via a Vo IP gateway (such as Dray TEL). VDSL & ADSL compatible If you have ADSL today it will work with that but if/when VDSL (FTTC) comes to your area later you're ready already. VDSL is available from BT under their ' Infinity™' service & various other suppliers currently providing downstream speeds of up to 80 Mb/s (depending on local service). Most of us are still mostly using IPv 4 as our Internet protocol (the system that gives us IP addresses like 194.158.12.42) but that's going to change. Over the next few years IPv 6 will increase in usage & eventually we'll all be using IPv 6 so the Vigor 2760 already supports it
- IPv 4 & IPv 6 can be run simultaneously (dual-stack) on the Vigor 2760. Cable Modem & Ethernet WAN Compatible
- New As well as being able to connect to ADSL/VDSL lines directly though the RJ11 socket on the rear the Vigor 2760 can now instead connect to Ethernet-fed Internet connections such as that provided by cable modems (e.g. Virgin Media). When Ethernet WAN is enabled LAN Port 4 switches to become your WAN port into which you can connect to your cable modem or other Ethernet feed. The other 3 Gigabit LAN ports (1-3) remain available for normal LAN connectivity. Note you cannot have Ethernet WAN & ADSL/VDSL enabled at the same time; if Ethernet WAN is enabled the ADSL/VDSL port is disabled (and vice versa). The photo on the right shows the Vigor 2760 connected to a cable modem using the Ethernet WAN Port. This feature is available on Vigor 2760 units shipped after June 2014 (firmware 3.x.x or later required). Web Content Filtering The content control features of the Vigor 2760 allow you to set restrictions on web site access blocking download of certain file or data types blocking specific web sites with whitelists (a lit of allowed sites) or blacklists (a list of blocked sites) blocking IM/P2P applications or other potentially harmful or time-wasting content. This is particularly useful in the home where children need to be protected or workplaces where inappropriate sites may be a liability security risk or harmful to productivity. Restrictions can be per user per PC or univeral. Using Dray Tek's Global View service you can block whole categories of web sites (e.g. gambling adult sites etc.) subject to an annual subscription to the Globalview service which is continuously updated with new or changed site categorisations or sites which have become compromised (such as infected with Malware). 3G/4G Cellular Data and; Network Attatched Storage (NAS) The Vigor 2760 has two USB (Universal Serial Bus) ports which can be used for 3G/4G modems USB (Universal Serial Bus) memory or a p
