The late Zoltan Szabo was one of the leading exponents of the concise teaching aid. This timely reissue is one of his classics
- as fresh today as it ever was.
Based on a lifetime's teaching, the book showcases 70 essential techniques for the landscape painter. & the topics covered are the ones you really want to know about. Allocating a page or two to a single idea is commonplace today. But Zoltan did it first. & he brings incredible clarity to everything he covers.
You get some technical hints, such as the uses of transparent & opaque colours, staining & non-staining pigments. & there's an entire chapter on the rules of reflection. There's also advice on problem subjects like clouds, trees, negative shapes & the use of granulating washes.
This is an American book. But Zoltan used the kind of muted colours we're more accustomed to in the UK. This superb book is therefore entirely relevant this side of the Atlantic.
