In this beautifully & copiously illustrated new book, Claudia draws on her ability with textures to demonstrate ways of painting trees that are part of a landscape composition rather than just as subjects in their own right.
Although the cover proclaims, ' More than 70 species of tree', this is not really its point &, indeed, locating all the varieties is something of a challenge
- which is exactly as it should be in this context. You will, however, see how to portray both deciduous trees & evergreens & many different crown & leaf shapes in all the seasons, as well as details of roots, trunks & bark. Except where it's necessary for the purpose of detail work, all of the examples here are shown in the context of a larger composition & Claudia does exactly what the title tells you she's going to.
Claudia begins with basic drawing techniques in pen & ink before progressing to foliage & structure. The remaining chapters introduce specific varieties of tree before concluding with the colours & shapes of autumn & winter.
Don't worry that the book has an American pedigree. Although some of the individual species may be unfamiliar, this is a book about colours & shapes, all of which will be instantly recognisable.
