- Tom Taverner, dedicated, impulsive, deeply caring about his inheritance, & his sister Catherine, intelligent, humorous, but frustrated by the limited opportunities open to women in a man

We all know how it works: first you go to School, then you go to University, & then you enter Real Life. & that's the important bit. Real Life is about achievement, recognition, choices. It's about a boss who trusts you, a wardrobe that suits you, friends who support you & a relationship that fulfils you. It`s a mobile phone, an expense account, a company car & a place to park it. Happily Ever After.

Unforunately, Real Life isn't working that way for The Temp. She's managed the university bit, but the job, the dough & the happily-ever-after seem harder than anybody ever told her. Living in Stockwell while she moves through a series of jobs ranging from the horrifying mindless to the bemusingly witless to the simply extraordinary, she realises that something isn't right.

Who cares about a boss who trusts you? She'd settle for a boss who knows her name. This can't be Real Life, can it?

Building on the success of her INDEPENDENT column, Serena Mackesy has created a wonderfully witty, acerbic exposé of office anthropology & a genuinely moving story about the early-twenties doldrums.

In the course of their investigations into Leonardo da Vinci & the Turin Shroud, Lynn Picknett & Clive Prince found clues in the work of the great Renaissance artist that pointed to the existence of a secret underground religion. More clues were found in a twentieth-century London church. These were the beginnings of a quest through time & space that led the authors into the mysterious world of secret societies & such bodies as the Freemasons, the Knights Templar & the Cathars & finally back to the ideas & beliefs of the first century AD & a devastating new view of the real character & motives of the founder of Christianity & the roles of John the Baptist & Mary Magdalene.

They reveal nothing less than a secret history, preserved through the centuries but encoded in works of art & even in the great Gothic cathedrals, whose revelation could shake the foundations of the Chruch.
