Mirobot v 2 Wi Fi Enabled Drawing Bot with Collision Detection & Line Following
- Mirobot MIROBOTV2, The Mirobot v 2 from Mirobot is a simple & fun way of learning about coding & robotics. The Mirobot has a built-in pen-holder for drawing on the move, a buzzer, a pair of collision sensors, a line following sensor & a Wi-Fi hotspot for programming. Suitable for all ages, it is supplied as a self-assembly kit, & the laser cut pieces clip together neatly & quickly without additional fixings. The circuit board is pre-assembled & ready for use immediately; in fact there are only two screws & they are for adjusting the pen holder. Building the bot gives a sense of achievement which will carry you through stage by stage as you learn to make the bot do more & more. Mirobot is available singly (75-0615) or in a Class Pack of 10 (75-0616). Instructions are provided for getting the bot's hotspot connected to your home Wi-Fi network. Once connected you can browse to the start page on the robot itself where you can create programs using a Scratch-like drag & drop interface. A great starting exercise is to draw different shapes using combinations of move & turn commands. There are some very useful guides on the Internet which will take you through exercises to get familiar with your new bot. As you become more confident, you can even learn Java Script which is the language that runs many popular websites. All this can be achieved using your normal web-browser, there's no special software required. This is a tough robot to outgrow, but should you feel adventurous, it's possible to write code for the internal Arduino mini directly using the Arduino IDE in C/C++, another very important programming language. The Mirobot is fully Open Source which means that the design documents for the chassis are available for free online & so is all the software.
