- they may be slightly dry or yellow after being in a dark box in the post, but they’ll quickly recover.- If you can’t do this, they can sit in Mini Greenhouses for a week if upright & not too wet.- We recommend that you leave them to settle for a day somewhere warm, light & airy such as a windowsill or greenhouse.- When you're ready to pot on, use a good quality, multi-purpose compost, & fill 3-4in pots (7-10cm).- Make a hole in the compost with a dibber or your finger, then holding each plug by its root ball, place it into the hole & gently firm the compost around it.- For great results, we recommend using our Windowsill Planters or 9cm pots in Shuttle Trays.- Give your plants a good water initially, then only when the top compost starts to dry as they don’t like to be left in standing water.- Grow on either on a bright windowsill or a greenhouse for 3-4 weeks before potting up into containers or into flower beds.- If planting directly into flower beds when all risk of frost has passed, prepare the ground well, removing weeds & digging in some compost or well-rotted manure if your soil is not already rich.- Plant approx. 20cm (8in) apart to allow them room to grow. Sansevieria Trifasciata Laurentii, also known as the Diehard Snake Plant or Mother-in-Law's Tongue, boasts gorgeous, sword-like, mottled green leaves edged in golden yellow. Easy to care for & maintain, Sansevieria are tolerant of weeks of neglect while their strappy leaves still manage to look fresh & vibrant. An ideal houseplant, the snake plant can survive in poor light, go extended periods without water & is resilient to pest assault. Research by NASA has shown Sansaveria can help keep the air inside your home clean, removing toxins such as formaldehyde & benzene. Giving out valuable oxygen at night it can even contribute to a restful night's sleep. Supplied as an established plant in a 17cm nursery pot & growing to 1.2m (4ft) tall. Please note that the decorative pot is not included. Care Guide Best grown in a clay pot as the strong rhizomes will push plastic pots out of shape. Dierama Blackberry Bells is a strong growing hybrid with very large deep violet trumpet flowers which dangle from the arched stems, so earning it the familiar name of ' Angels Fishing Rod'. It's perfect for planting at the side of a pond or anywhere that the flowers hang & sway alluringly in the breeze. In flower from early June, despite their delicate appearance the stems are surprisingly strong & make exotic cut blooms. Supplied as 40 plug plants. Top Tips- Dieramas dislike disturbance, so try to get the position right first time. Care Guideplanting Advice for Dierama:- Plant in an open, sunny position in a fertile soil that drains well
- Dierama doesn’t like dry summers or wet winters.- Heavy soils can be enhanced by adding well-rotted compost & grit. Alternatively, they can be grown in a pot.- When planting, ensure that the top of the compost is level with the surrounding soil.- Water your potted plant well then dig a hole a little deeper & 3 x wider than the nursery pot.- Add a soil conditioner such as well-rotted manure to the earth removed from the hole if necessary.- Remove the plant from its pot & tease out a few of the roots if crowded.- Place your plant in the hole at the same level at the pot.- Refill the hole with the earth removed (backfilling) & firm in the soil, avoiding the root ball.- Water well & mulch around the base of the plant with a collar, compost, gravel, bark etc. Aftercare Advice for Dierama:- Keep plants well-watered but do not allow them to sit in wet.- Mulch well in winter for the first couple of seasons.
