After travelling to many different countries & continents including Ecuador, Peru, Europe, & Africa; he wanted to do more exploration around South America but sleeping on the ground in the rainforest is not an option. Thus, he was introduced to hammocks, a new experience that would hugely influence my life. On these adventures, he would need a rain cover & a mosquito net amongst other things. But a complete set with all these features was too heavy & not easy to transport. Ultimately, he resulted to sourcing the materials in South America & building his own, with the help of the Huaorani tribe. The result was a hammock with mosquito protection & a tent as rain protection, weighing more than 7kg. This hammock left me with back pain & even mosquito bites. Fortunately, he had our guides with them. They had been sleeping in hammocks since childhood & were amused by the back pain induced by my self-built hammock. They showed me how to hang up a hammock properly, & how to lie in it. This was the beginning of sleeping without back pain, & every evening I?d work to improve my hammock. When he returned to Germany, he did not leave hammocks behind. he imported hammocks & sold them to friends & acquaintances & after a few months you could even buy AMAZONAS hammocks in some stores. & so, an idea became a successful company, my ambition to develop my own products & to bring them to the market became bigger & bigger. That was the starting point for setting up my own hammock weaving mill in Brazil, the origin country of hammocks. Many months in Brazil with my new friends & real traditional hammock makers taught me the basics, which I still use today. Many of these experiences & qualities I found there, you can still find today in our products. Not your ordinary fern, the Bears Paw Fern (Phlebodium ' Blue Star) is an attractive & vigorous houseplant with a subtle deep blue-green leaf colour, looking almost like an exotic indoor seaweed! Evergreen, it does not lose its leaves & retains its wonderful colour all year making it a decorative & striking plant to decorate your home. As the plant grows, the fronds develop finger-shaped lobes as they mature, held on long stems & looking very much like an outstretched paw, hence its more common name of Bear's Paw or Rabbit Foot. Easy to grow & look after, your Bear's Paw will tolerate low light. As a natural inhabitant of tropical rainforests, Phlebodium does like its humidity high so is perfect for a bathroom or kitchen where it will thrive in a bright spot, out of direct sunlight. An interesting & unusual fern, Blue Star is also perfect for cutting & flower arranging so don't be afraid to conjure up your inner designer! Supplied as an established plant in a 12cm pot, growing to around 30cm x 30cm. Please note that the decorative pot is not included. Care Guide Keep the compost moist (but not waterlogged) at all times except winter when plants are dormant & water can be cut down (but do not allow to dry out so that the compost shrinks from the side of the pot).
