Product Description

Mr Fothergills Squash (Winter) Uchiki Kuri Sweet nutty tasting 'hubbard' type. Teardrop shaped growing to approx 1.5 kg. Creamy flesh which is sweet & nutty stores well Excellent source of vitamin A good for vitamin C & folate.S: March

- October Sow indoors for surest results 1.5cm (1/2 inch) deep on edge in samll pots of compost. Water well & place in a warm position. A temperature of 15-20C (60-68F) is ideal. Keep Squash Uchiki Kuri seedlings moist. seedlings usually appear in 7-14 days. Gradually accustom plants to outside conditions (avoid frosts) before planting out 90cm (3 inches) apart when frosts are over. Or sow outdoors for ease where they are to crop 1.5cm (1/2 inches) deep directly into finely prepared soil which has already been watered. Allow 90cm (3 inches) between sowing positions. Sow Squash Uchiki two seeds on edge per position. Early sowings benefit from cloche protection. Thin to leave the stronger plant. Water well until plants are established. Mr. F's Tips: Harvested fruits can be stored in a dry frost free location for 2-3 months. Harvest fruits before frosts In Japan it is traditionally eaten braised in stock as a winter vegetable. Contains 10 seeds inside!
