Maiasaura is a type of hadrosaur, or duck-billed dinosaur that lived in what is now western Montana late in the Cretaceous Period. Bones of adult Maiaisaura have been discovered near fossilized nests containing eggs & babies of this dinosaur. Together with additional clues, these finds have convinced many scientists that these & other hadrosaurs nurtured their young after hatching. Newly hatched Maiasaura were only 14 inches (35 centimeters) long & weighed about 1.5 pounds (0.7 kilograms). Like other duckbills, Maiasaura ate plants & could chew its food.
