The Sarracenia purpurea Venosa is commonly known as the American Pitcher Plant or ` Southern Huntsman`s Cap & is a dwarf, clump forming fly catcher. They produce red flowers in spring. The flowers are followed by red pitchers which can grow between 1518 cms high (68 inches). It is fully hardy & can be planted outside in the garden or inside a greenhouse or on a window sill. One important consideration is that Sarracenia`s do not respond well to tap water, so it is recommended to use rain water.
