It is most useful in mixed hedges, as it has a scrambling habit so it forms an impenetrable barrier & will attract birds & deter intruders. The RHS Dog Rose (Rosa canina) will grow in any suitable soil, in particular well drained soil in sun or shade & it will withstand strong winds.
