Undertow

A Peruvian fisherman is forced to make a choice between his traditional life and a secret love in this debut film from director Javier Fuentes-Leon. Living the life of a respected fisherman in a Peruvian village, newly married Miguel (Cristian Mercado) is awaiting the arrival of his first child with Mariela (Tatiana Astengo). Although all seems well, Miguel harbours a secret; he has been having an affair with Santiago (Manolo Cardona), a male artist who is visiting the area. When Santiago unexpectedly drowns at sea, his ghost returns to enlist Miguel's help in allowing him to pass over. Now, in order to free his former lover, Miguel must find the courage to tell his deeply religious community about his relationship, even if that means sacrificing all that he holds precious.
