Peter O' Toole, Peter Ustinov & Cyril Cusack star in this saga of 1900s Dublin life, adapted from the novels of James Plunkett. Jim Larkin (O' Toole) arrives in Dublin during one of its most turbulent eras to organise the unions & get a fair deal for the working man in a time of widespread poverty & destitution. Larkin, nicknamed ' Big Jim', founded the Worker's Union of Ireland & became best-known for his role in the Dublin Lockout of 1913 after employees were threatened with losing their jobs if they refused to sign a pledge not to join a union or engage in any sympathetic strikes.
