Triple bill of films starring Sean Connery. In ' The Untouchables' (1987), Kevin Costner stars as Eliot Ness, an idealistic Treasury official who vows to bring an end to Al Capone (Robert De Niro)'s corrupt hold over Prohibition-era Chicago. To this end, Ness puts together an elite team of law-enforcement officers (played by Connery, Andy Garcia & Charles Martin Smith), & begins making bold strikes at Capone's bootlegging operation. Nevertheless, Capone's empire continues to thrive, & Ness realises that he must try a different approach. In ' The Hunt for Red October' (1990), in 1984, Soviet submarine captain Marko Ramius (Connery) decides to break away from the military exercises in which he has been ordered to take part & sets a course straight for the American coastline. The Americans believe he is mounting a renegade attack, the Russians believe he is trying to defect, & both nations send their Navies out in pursuit. The one man who seems to have a clear grasp on the situation is C.I.A. analyst Jack Ryan (Alec Baldwin), but can he make the super-powers see sense before they risk everything in a potential catastrophic naval encounter? Finally, in ' The Presidio' (1988), when a murder is committed on a San Francisco military base, detective Jay Austin (Mark Harmon) finds that he must team up with his old enemy Lt. Col. Caldwell (Connery) in order to investigate. Caldwell's daughter (Meg Ryan) enjoys the antagonism between the two & causes trouble by flirting with Austin. But all personal tensions must be put aside when the two cops realise the killing was part of a larger conspiracy.
