Once In A Lifetime

Documentary telling the story of one of the greatest soccer teams America ever had. In the 1970s, the New York Cosmos became the football equivalent of the Harlem Globetrotters, signing giants of the game such as Pele, Carlos Alberto and many more. Egos, impulses and cultures clashes created a larger than life atmosphere among both players and the club's executives with a fan base that included everyone from the worlds of fashion, music, art, politics and business. The Cosmos drew crowds of 80, 000 fans and won several league championships with their eye-catching football. But as media attention snowballed, so did the star-status of the glamorous footballers who soon became notorious players on the legendary 1970s New York City party circuit at Studio 54. The dream could not be
sustained, however, and the team imploded in the early 1980s. As ratings dropped, the US TV networks pulled their financing and the brief but glorious US love affair with the beautiful game was over.
