Mutiny On The Bounty

Frank Lloyd's Oscar-winning film tells the story of the infamous mutiny aboard HMS Bounty. First officer Fletcher Christian (Clark Gable) and tyrannical Captain Bligh (Charles Laughton) clash over Bligh's leadership. On their way back home from Tahiti, Christian manages to commandeer the vessel from its brutal master after Bligh causes the death of the ship's doctor. The Captain and several other officers are then set adrift in an open boat whilst Christian steers the ship on a 4, 000 mile journey to the Dutch East Indies - without losing a man. Re-made in 1962 with Marlon Brando, and also in 1984 as the 'revisionist' 'The Bounty' with Mel Gibson as Christian.
